Due to a planned power outage this coming weekend, all University at Albany computers including the web server will be unavailable beginning sometime after 4:00PM Friday, August 22. Service to all machines is expected by Monday morning August 25.

Details from the Computing Center:

Shutting Down:

Starting at 4 pm on Friday 8/22/97 we will begin procedures to have all centrally maintained servers powered down in order to accomodate the scheduled power outage. Centrally operated platforms include the VMS cluster, the UNIX servers, the IBM mainframe (both VM and MVS), the Periphonics Voice Registration System, the Library machine, the Advancement machine and the Web server. Please note that after 4 pm on Friday, a specific server may be accessible for login, however any work started after 4 pm may be interrupted. Therefore it is advisable to avoid use of the central machines past 4 pm on Friday. After the machines have been shut down, the network will then be shut down.

Restoration of services:

On Sunday August 24, 1997, after power has been restored and stabilized, the network will be brought back up. We will then begin bringing up the central servers. We will restore service asap. Once the power is back up, restoration of service will take minimally several hours. If problems are encountered it will naturally take several hours longer to restore services.

All service should be restored by Monday, August 25.
