The conference will be held on December 2, 1997 at the University at Albany Uptown Campus. (Consult the Uptown Campus Map. Note the locations of Visitor Parking, the Performing Arts Center, the Campus Center and the Joseph Henry Physics Building.)

All events are free and open to the general public except the Sigma Xi - ACS Dinner, which requires a reservation.

A new biography, Joseph Henry The Rise of an American Scientist by Albert Moyer published by the Smithsonian Institution Press in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Henry's birth will be available. The biography focuses on Henry's early and middle years, 1797-1847, from his emergence as America's foremost physical scientist to his election as the Smithsonian Institution's first director.

Dr. Nathan Reingold of the Smithsonian Institution will also be attending the Conference. He is the first editor of The Papers of Joseph Henry published by the Smithsonian Institution.

A commemorative cachet and postal cancellation will be also be available at the conference.
