As composer Max Lifchitz states: "The impetus for creating this work was provided by the horrible events that took place in New York City on September 11, 2001... The text was promptly assembled by weaving together many of the desperate phrases posted in prominent and unexpected places throughout the New York City streets...The work will receive its premiere the evening of October 26, 2001 at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Chapel."
