NEW M.S. BIOLOGY SEQUENCE IN FORENSIC MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

An exciting new Forensic Molecular Biology sequence within the M.S. degree program in Biology has recently been approved and is accepting students for Fall 2001.The new M.S. sequence involves an unprecedented collaboration and cooperation between the Department of Biological Sciences at the University at Albany and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center situated adjacent to the university campus. With the rapid development of advances in modern biology, and because of the precision of the science, courts are apportioning greater weight to physical DNA evidence while becoming less reliant on eyewitness accounts and confessions. This has created a critical need for personnel with specialized training in the field of forensic molecular biology and the new M.S. sequence is designed to fulfill this need.
