For the coming spring semester I will be teaching a course, POS/PUB 399, "The September 11 Project:  Reading, Research and Analysis of the Terrorist Attacks on the United States." The class will meet uptown on Tuesdays from 4:15 to 7:05 in a room to be arranged.

This course is a research seminar for undergraduates who are interested in working with a faculty member on an ongoing research project involving the political and policy outcomes of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Admission to this course is based on instructor's permission. The class size will be limited to no more than 20 students, plus or minus a student or two. A main criterion for admission to the class will be at least a B average or honors status. The reason for this requirement is that this course will be very challenging, fast moving, and intense, as we gather and analyze a considerable volume of data on media and policy responses to the attacks. Students in other disciplines, such as sociology, history, public policy, or communications are welcome to look into joining the course.

Please direct students to contact me at 442-5243, via e-mail at [email protected], or to visit my web site at https://www.albany.edu/~birkland.

Thanks—this should be an exciting and interesting course.
