As we continue to watch in disbelief the unfolding of today's events I want first to express my deep concern for the many individuals and families whose lives are now in turmoil.

This morning, on campus, I saw our students, faculty and staff reaching out to one another expressing their support and compassion and I am so very grateful to be a part of such a caring community. I witnessed the hundreds of students who lined-up so readily to donate blood and the many students, faculty and staff in uniform preparing to depart for New York City to serve in national guard units ...  and our students who are helping to organize a candlelight vigil at the fountain tonight at 7:30. In the days, ahead I know this same spirit of concern and support will help us all as we face and come to understand the enormity of this tragedy. Once again, my deep gratitude to all for reaching out and finding the best ways to help.
