TO: The University at Albany Community
As you know, the University has been involved in a transformer replacement project for quite some time now and every building on campus will encounter power outages as a result of this project. There is a lengthy power outage scheduled to begin on Friday, March 10th and continue thru Sunday, March 12th. Power will be removed from the Fine Arts & Administration buildings at 5 PM on Friday and we expect power to be restored by 7pm on Sunday evening.

NOTE: In the future, whenever you see a power outage schedule that calls for either the Fine Arts or the Administration buildings to lose power, be advised that this will cause an interruption of services for systems supported by University Business Systems and Academic Computing.

In preparation for this (or any) power outage, there are a number of precautions that must be taken to help ensure the integrity of our systems and data. Most UBS supported administrative users will not have access after 3am on Friday, March 10th. Academic Computing services will be available until Noon on Friday. For most of the day on Friday, Computing Center staff will be performing critical file backups, operating system shutdowns and power-down sequences on all University Business Systems and Academic Computing systems in preparation for this outage. We realize that this is a tremendous inconvenience for our users, but in order for the University to be better able to avoid unscheduled power outages in the future, this transformer equipment must be replaced.
In an effort to make it easier to understand what services will be available to our users and when we expect to be fully operational, please carefully review the charts that appear below.
