The University at Albany's Performing Arts Center will welcome the ground breaking a cappella group five o'clock shadow for a performance on Thursday, March 16 at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $12 for seniors 65 and older, and $10 for students.

"With no instruments or tracks, the six members of this pop/rock band produce a full scale concert extravaganza with their voices that has to be seen and heard to assure that you are not in a dream, but rather contemporary music reality for the new millennium and beyond. Bill Eddy (tenor), Dan Lennon (tenor), Oren Maika (tenor), Paul Pampinella (baritone) and David "Stack" Stackhouse (vocal percussion), use vocal techniques at the cutting edge of the music industry to create a unique full-scale pop/rock band in the mainstream that is second to none." — Collin Bishop, MTV Local Stringer 10/5/99)

five o'clock shadow began performing on the a cappella scene in the Boston area in 1991, but it wasn't until 1998, and the release of their indie-label debut album, "So There", that the band began to break through with its original pop/rock material. five o'clock shadow's sound is an amalgam of rock, funk, dance, hip hop, jazz, along with edgy pop grooves, in-the-pocket percussion, and lush harmonies. "So There" earned the band a 1998 contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for "Best Pop/Rock Original Song."

"This album will give you chills from the opening melody and harmonies. Vocalists that truly think like instrumentalists lift this album beyond the a cappella norm. See what a cappella music is really doing these days." — Songwriters Monthly, November 1998

The group has shared the stage with James Brown, Aaron Neville and the Boston Pops, Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain, and has appeared on national television in the U.S. and Japan.

Opening for five o'clock shadow is the University at Albany's all male a cappella group, The Earth Tones. Formed in the fall of 1998, The Earth Tones is the University's first a cappella group in over thirty years. Their diverse repertoire consists of current pop favorites, oldies, traditional and classical pieces as well as original songs. The Earth Tones have performed at a variety of local venues including Mother Earth's Café and last spring they appeared as the featured act at The Best of A Cappella concert in Delmar, New York. This March they will tour New York State high schools.
