Professor Janell Hobson

Janell Hobson, faculty advisor, is Assistant Professor of Women's Studies at UAlbany. She is the author of Venus in the Dark: Blackness and Beauty in Popular Culture. She regularly teaches courses on Women and the Media, Classism, Racism, and Sexism, Feminist Social and Political Thought, Feminist Theory, the new course Narratives and Counter-Narratives, and the e-journal course for transcending silence...


 
 

Kenny Alvarenga

Kenny Alvarenga born in the Bronx, NY is currently a senior at SUNY Albany. He's a member of La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica, Sigma Delta Pie and has received numerous academic achievement awards from the University at Albany. He plans to graduate in the fall of 2006 with a major in spanish literature and a minor in economics. Upon graduation he aspires to go to graduate school and get a masters degree in business administration.

 

 
 

Libby Becker

Libby Becker is a Presidential Scholar, pursuing a double major in Women's Studies and Globalization Studies and a minor in Public Health. She recently worked as the stage manager on the Women's Studies performance "Words of the Prophets". She is also a chief editor for the literary publication, "The Spell for Rain" and she served on the board of the online journal "transcending silence..." in Spring 2006. She plans to graduate in Spring 2008 and pursue graduate work in the fields of Public Health and Peace Studies.

 

 
 

Maureen Burns

Maureen Burns is a junior at SUNY Albany. She was born in Albany, NY and lived for many years in Montreal, Quebec. Her areas of interest include social justice and the value of literature and other forms of cultural production in fostering a sense of global empathy and compassion.

 

 
 

Reinaldo Castro

Born at Columbia Presbyterian in Washington Heights, NYC on April 9th, 1984. Attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. John's Prep. Collegiate studies at SUNY Albany. Receivables Manager for the Rosenwach Group, family of companies. Guitarist and singer for NYC alternative band DMT. Currently concluding undergraduate degree and band musical project. Believes that a successful Green Campus Project can be one aspect, of a larger University effort, to change the way students see and use campus space.

 

 
 

Sarah Clark

Sarah Clark is currently a senior at SUNY Albany supported by an academic scholarship, double majoring in English and Women's Studies. She plans to graduate in 2007 followed by graduate school also at SUNY Albany to hopefully one day pursue a career in journalism or writing.

 

 
 

Emily Estrada

Emilyanne was born May 17th in Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. She went to high school in Scared Heart in Yonkers and graduated in 2005. Emilyanne is a sophmore with no declared major and hopes to graduate 2009 from the University at Albany.

 

 
 

Jason Griscti

My name is Jason Griscti, I am currently in my fifth year at Suny Albany and I'm a Sociology major and a Greek and Roman civilizations minor. I was born and raised in Sunnyside, NY, and I'm graduating in the spring of 2007, if all goes as planned. After college I plan on working on my masters degree and one day teaching grade school.

 

 
 

Crystal Harmuth

 

I am a senior at the University of Albany.  My major is psychology and I have a double minor in sociology and education.  After graduation I am planning to attend graduate school to earn a master’s degree in Counseling and Community Psychology.

 

 
 

Tanya James

Tanya James is a senior student athlete at the University at Albany. She major’s in Sociology and minor’s in women studies; she is also a second year captain of the women’s basketball team. Born in Toronto, Canada Tanya is the daughter of Patrick and Aldine James.

 

 
 

Kimberly McKenna

Kimberly McKenna was born on September 9, 1987 in Manhattan at New York Hospital. She was raised in North Babylon, New York and graduated from North Babylon High School in 2005. She is a sophomore and a social welfare major. She plans to graduate May 2009 and wants to pursue a career as a social worker.

 

 
 

Nicole Wan

Nicole Wan is a graduating senior of Spring 2007 with a double major in Woman's Studies and English, and a minor in Sociology. She will be pursuing a master in both Woman's Studies and Education also at the University at Albany. She recently co-starred in the original rendition of the "Words of Prophets" perfomance; a feminist spoken word forum ment to activate the mind, and instill global activism in social justice.
