Ben Wildavsky ( is senior fellow and executive director of the College Board Policy Center in Washington, DC. He is also policy professor in the School of Education at the University at Albany. He was previously director of higher education studies at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, a senior scholar at the Kauffman Foundation, and a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution. He is the author of The Great Brain Race: How Global Universities Are Reshaping the World. He is also co-editor of Reinventing Higher Education: The Promise of Innovation. His articles have appeared in the Atlantic, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, the New Republic, and many other publications. Wildavsky, a former education editor of U.S. News & World Report and frequent public speaker, has written influential policy reports, including the final report of the Secretary of Education’s Commission on the Future of Higher Education. He received a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from Yale University (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude).
