Fellows Program


  • To create awareness of and appreciation for professionally-related post-retirement contributions and achievements by UAlbany Emeriti, including faculty, professional staff, and administrators
  • To confer appropriate honor to UAlbany Emeriti for sustained, consequential, and exemplary post-retirement professionally related contributions and achievements
  • To nurture the development of strong and mutually supportive relationships between Emeriti and UAlbany


  • Faculty, professional staff, and administrators with Emeriti status that are formally retired from UAlbany
  • Emeriti with substantial contributions and/or achievements in the following domains:
           a. Scholarly/Creative Productions
           b. Teaching, in or outside the university
           c. Service, in or outside the university
           d. Notable accomplishments in other venues (awards, recognitions, etc.)

Application Materials

  • CV or other record of accomplishment
  • Letter of nomination or self-nomination, addressing the Board of the Emeritus Center, describing the significance of the contribution or achievement that is the basis for the Fellows Award
  • Materials (e.g., books, articles, syllabi, etc.); announcements, reviews, or notices; or other evidence of achievements related to the nomination


  • A selection committee will be appointed through action of the Board of the Emeritus Center
  • The selection committee will review nominations and make recommendations to the Board of the Emeritus Center
  • Announcement of the William L. Reese Memorial Fellows Award soliciting nominations should be distributed annually by September 30
  • Nominations for the Fellows Award should be received by January 30
  • Decisions by the Emeritus Board should be made by March 31.

Presentation and Award

  • Fellows are awarded a $500 honorarium
  • Fellows are invited to give a presentation regarding their work in the Emeritus Center’s speakers’ series
  • Generally, up to two awards may be made annually.
