Alumna and Lecturer Stuetzel Honored with 2015-16 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence

Albany, NY (March 31, 2016) – Helen C. Stuetzel, MS ’79, CAS ’82, PhD ’91, lecturer in the Department of Literacy Teaching and Learning, has been awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching - one of two at UAlbany and of 46 across the SUNY system.

Helen C. StuetzelSUNY presents these honors annually to individuals within the SUNY community to “acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence."

Stuetzel has been teaching master’s level courses for practicing K-12 teachers in the department for nearly three decades. She began her K-12 career as a reading teacher in the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District, and worked in the Ballston Spa Central School District for 16 years before retiring as principal of Ballston Spa Middle School in 2009. She has worked for the Gloversville Enlarged School District in a variety of part-time capacities since then, and is currently a literacy consultant. A three-time alumna of UAlbany, she was recognized in 2009 by the Alumni Association with the Bertha E. Brimmer medal for excellence in and devotion to teaching.
