Zoom Security Guidance

Part of the challenge of remote academic and administrative work is the issue of unwelcome guests, often not affiliated with an institution, finding their way into Zoom sessions and other online platforms. This is referred to as “Zoombombing,” after the popular online platform Zoom many of us are using to gather remotely.

In order to mitigate this risk, the following security features will apply to all Zoom meetings scheduled by faculty and students effective August 17, 2020:

  • All participants must login with their UAlbany Zoom account to join.

  • All meetings will require a password to join.

  • The Waiting Room is automatically enforced for guests and optional for UAlbany participants.

  • Participants cannot join a meeting before the host.
