Keep up the good work and stay vigilant, UAlbany!
October 21, 2021
Dear UAlbany community,
Last week marked a major milestone for our campus – the halfway point of our first fully in-person semester in more than a year. Thanks to your hard work and dedication, we were able to enjoy a close-to-normal Homecoming and are in an excellent position to finish this semester strong and healthy.
Since Aug. 16, we have averaged just under one COVID-19 case per day among faculty, staff and students – despite the rise of the delta variant and the new challenges it posed.
That is extraordinary – and certainly not a coincidence. As we look ahead to Thanksgiving and the final seven weeks of the semester, let’s remember how we got here: near-universal vaccination, surveillance testing and indoor masking. I know these measures are not always easy, but they are working. Because they are working, it’s easy to lose sight of the threat that COVID-19 still poses if we let our guard down.
I’m writing today to sincerely thank you for your efforts so far and to challenge you to keep it up. As a reminder, masks are still required inside all University buildings. Following this simple-but-necessary rule will help the University avoid needing to reinstate gathering or event restrictions and, as flu season is upon us, also will help control the spread of the flu and other illnesses. Please do your part and ask others you are with to do the same.
If you haven’t already done so, please take advantage of the University’s voluntary COVID-19 surveillance testing program for vaccinated students, faculty and staff. In addition to providing peace of mind and protecting the health of those around you, this program affords vaccinated students the chance to win a cash drawing. More information about that program is available on the Surveillance Testing webpage. Every additional layer of protection we afford ourselves helps us to achieve our educational goals safely and without disruptions while enjoying all that UAlbany has to offer.
