Previously Offered Merit Scholarships 

The following scholarships were offered to previous cohorts of incoming UAlbany freshmen and transfer students.

Students who received these scholarships can use this page to understand the requirements for renewing their awards each year, if applicable.  

Note: For all awards, recipients must remain continuously enrolled at UAlbany full time (at least 12 degree-applicable credits), while maintaining their satisfactory academic progress, in order to renew. These scholarships can only be used to finance a student’s first bachelor's degree. 

A review committee recommended recipients based on prior academic achievements and scholarships were awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.  
 

Freshman Presidential Scholarship (2019-20)

This scholarship was offered to select 2019-2020 cohort of in-state freshmen

Recipients were selected based on their demonstrated academic achievement and performance. 

It is a non-tuition award, meaning it is allocated to pay for fees, room and board expenses, books and other personal expenses. It cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance. 

This scholarship is renewable for up to three consecutive academic years, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress. 

Freshman Achievement Scholarship (2019-20)

This scholarship was offered to select 2019-2020 cohort of freshmen. 

Recipients had to be eligible for out-of-state tuition and were selected based on their demonstrated academic achievement and performance.  

This scholarship is renewable for up to three consecutive academic years, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress. 

175th Anniversary Scholarship

This scholarship was offered to the 2019-2020 cohort of freshmen. 

It is a non-tuition award, meaning it is allocated to pay for fees, room and board expenses, books and other personal expenses. It cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance. 

This scholarship is renewable for up to three consecutive academic years, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress. 

Great Dane Transfer Grant

This grant was offered to the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 cohort of transfer students. 

The academic yearly award was $3,000, equal to $1,500 per semester, and was applied to University room costs only. To be eligible for this grant, students were required to: 

  • Have had a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at their previous institution 

  • Have had 24 or more transferrable credits from another college or university 

  • Live in Alumni Quad, Colonial Quad, Dutch Quad, Indian Quad, State Quad or Freedom Apartments on UAlbany’s campus 

Student Success Transfer Grant

This grant was offered to the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 cohort of transfer students. 

The academic yearly award was $1,000, equal to $500 per semester, and was applied to University room costs only. To be eligible for this grant, students were required to: 

  • Have had a cumulative GPA of between 2.5 and 2.99 at their previous institution 
  • Have had 24 or more transferrable credits from another college or university 
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Live in Alumni Quad, Colonial Quad, Dutch Quad, Indian Quad, State Quad or Freedom Apartments on UAlbany’s campus
