Yuhui Lu, Visiting Professor

Yuhui Lu(吕俞辉)is a visiting professor from Beijing Normal University (BNU) working for the William and Mary Confucius Institute. She teaches Chinese language courses in the Department of Modern Languages & Literature. She received her BA in Chinese language and literature from BNU in 1986, then her MA in linguistics and applied linguistics in 2004, and currently is a Ph.D. candidate in the same academic field at BNU. She has been teaching Chinese as a foreign language to international students since 1986 both in China and in foreign countries, such as Japan, South Korea, and the United States. As a Master’s tutor, she has taught graduate courses in linguistics and applied linguistics at BNU. Her main research fields are Chinese grammar and cross-cultural communication, in which she has published more than 30 papers and a number of textbooks. Prior to joining WMCI she taught at Dartmouth College for four years, where, in 2007, she was recognized by students for teaching excellence. In 2012, Professor Lu obtained an “Outstanding Teacher” award from BNU.

Dr. Levente Li, Visiting Professor, UMass Boston

Levente Li received his Ph.D. at Beijing Normal University, specializing in the study of teaching Chinese as a second language. In the past, he has served as a lecturer at the Chinese program at Tufts, instructor in the Chinese Department of Tsinghua (清华大学) University (Beijing) and served as academic consultant for the CCTV program Stories of Chinese Characters. He has spent many years teaching Chinese to non-native speakers. He is currently chief consultant at the E-Learning Center of the Confucius Institute (Beijing) and a visiting professor at Umass Boston.
