Interested in majoring
in Communication?

We are now accepting applications for admission to the Communication major. To be considered, a student must take Com 100 and an approved logic/statistics class. Admission to the major requires a minimum of a C- in the two required entry courses. Students with an average of B or better are guaranteed acceptance. Students may drop off the application at the COM office in Social Science 351 or via email. Details here.





Commencement '18

The Department of Communication Recognition Ceremony for graduating Spring 2018 Communication and Journalism students was held Friday, May 18, in SEFCU Arena. Doug Mortman '01, vice president of Sports and Talk Operations at SiriusXM radio was our featured speaker. If you missed the ceremony, you can watch a video of the livestream. Photos can be found on the Department's Facebook page. Commencement weekend for 2019 has already been announced for the weekend of May 17-19. Details are generally available in early Spring.

Wilkie Award '18

Samantha Cordona of Staten Island is the 2018 winner of the Richard W. Wilkie Award for the Outstanding Undergraduate in Communication. Find out more about this award.

Welcome new faculty

The Department welcomes 2 new faculty members this fall. Associate Professor Rukhsana Ahmed will be teaching Communication classes. She comes from the University at Ottawa. Assistant Professor Chang Sup Park joins our Journalism Program. He was most recently at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.


Department of Communication students who need advisement should make an appointment online with Undergraduate Studies Advisor Kate Sechler. Ms. Sechler advises all COM and JRL majors and minors. Her office is located inside the Communication Department suite in Social Science 351. She can also be reached at or 518-442-4875.
