A national conversation has emerged about how to address COVID-19 related delays and the many ways that we can celebrate the success and achievements of our students. A dedicated team of UAlbany staff is reviewing different possibilities, and details will be shared as soon as possible. Join us in honoring our graduating students and future alumni!

There are a number of opportunities for faculty and staff to take part in making Commencement both a positive and personal experience for our graduating students. As the faculty and staff who guided our students through their time at UAlbany, your presence at these events honors their achievements and is rewarding for you as well.

As a vital member of our UAlbany community, you have worked hard all year to help our students realize success, and we invite you to share in their celebration! All faculty are invited to participate in regalia in the various academic ceremonies, and staff members are encouraged to volunteer for a myriad of critical positions.

Please be aware that commencement ceremonies often require participants to stand for long periods or use stairs. Accommodations are available to allow our entire UAlbany community to participate, so please email to let us know if you need special arrangements.

Then, click the Faculty Registration button below to:

  • Register to participate in one or more ceremonies
  • Reserve your rental regalia, if necessary
  • Provide details about any doctoral candidate(s) you’ll be hooding, if applicable

Faculty always have the option to purchase custom regalia, which frees you from ordering and returning rentals every year while allowing you to honor your institution of higher education.

Volunteer Staff Participation

Whether you're a current student or member of the UAlbany family, a local community member, or a Great Dane alum, volunteering is a rewarding experience for both you and our graduates. 

Review the schedule of ceremonies linked above to determine when you can help - if your schedule allows, we encourage you to help at more than one ceremony
Keep in mind that compensatory time is available. 

Then, click the Volunteer button below to:

  • Review the volunteer roles available at the University-wide ceremony
  • Sign up as a volunteer to staff one or more ceremonies
  • Receive more info about how to volunteer at one or more school/college ceremony
