Undergraduate Programs

Situated in New York’s Capital Region and boasting top-flight researchers devoted to advancing both theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and environmental and sustainable engineering, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is an ideal destination for students who are interested careers in electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, or a host of other computer-related fields.

Computer Science

Three students and professor in a 3-D printing labFocused on the scientific study of algorithms (rules for a computation) and the problems they might solve, the Department of Computer Science offers undergraduates:

  • A Bachelor of Arts degree,
  • Two separate Bachelor’s of Science degrees as well as
  • A minor in Computer Science.

For exceptional students, the Computer Science Department also offers a combined B.S./M.S. program and an honors program. Internships are also available for qualified students looking for practical experience.

Electrical and Computer Engineering

Incorporating concepts from engineering, mathematics, computer science and physics, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers undergraduates a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students in the program study a broad range of topics that span both electrical engineering and computer engineering.   Graduates of the program can work in traditional electrical engineering fields such as integrated circuits, power systems, RF and microwave systems, wireless communications, automatic control, and video and image processing as well as traditional computer engineering fields such as software engineering, computer hardware, robotics, embedded systems, digital systems, and computer networking.

Environmental and Sustainable Engineering

Basic sciences, such as chemistry, biology, physics, atmospheric science, social science, economics, geography and planning, and political science provide a solid foundation for this multidisciplinary engineering program. The Department of Environmental and Sustainable Engineering offers undergraduates a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sustainable Engineering. Students enrolling in this program will be equipped with a strong foundation in this broad discipline, state-of-the-art science and technologies for solving environmental problems using sustainable approaches, and skills for lifelong learning.  Graduates of the program can choose careers in industry, consulting, and government at local, state and federal levels. Some graduates may enter academia and research organizations if they pursue graduate studies beyond the Bachelor of Science.
