Dr. Lyu graduated from Dartmouth College with Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 2005, and from Beijing University with M.S. degree in Computer Science and B.S. degree in Information Science in 2000 and 1997, respectively. 

Prior to joining University at Albany, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Center for Neural Science of New York University from 2005 to 2008.

Research Interests

Dr. Lyu's main research interests include deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, and media forensics.

Additional Information

Dr. Lyu is the recipient of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award in 2010, and the NSF CAREER Award in 2010.

Dr. Lyu leads the Computer Vision and Machine Learning (CVML) of University at Albany, State University of New York, which currently has one faculty director (Dr. Siwei Lyu), two post-doc researchers, and four graduate research assistants. Since the establishment of 2008, MLMV has been sponsored by three NSF research grants and two NIJ funded research projects (through collaboration with GE Global Research Center). MLVL has focused on in the area of video analysis, and on-going projects include fusing 3D scene reconstruction with live tracking for optimal event representation, unsupervised data-driven machine learning methods for video event categorization, and supervised learning methods using side information.
