Zakhar Berkovich

Zakhar “Zack” Berkovich is a recipient of the 2008 Chancellors Award for Student Excellence. A senior from Staten Island, NY, Zack is a member of the Honors College. He is a double major in Biology and Judaic Studies.

Zack has received numerous awards and scholarships including the Class of 1939 Scholarship, President’s Awards for Leadership, Residential Life Outstanding Achievement Award, School Spirit of the Year Award and the Outstanding Senior Award. Additionally, he is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and has been on the Dean’s List 2004-2008.

On campus Zack is an active member of the Biology Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Students of Albany Against Cancer, Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Board, ITS Student Advisory Board, Presidential Honors Society and the Judicial Board. He also serves as the vice-president of Hillel. As the treasurer of the UAlbany Crew Team he took the lead role in securing funds to purchase their new boat, the "Kermit L. Hall."

Zack welcomes prospective students to the University as an Admissions Tour Guide. He is fluent in Russian, English, Hebrew and Byelorussian. At the Foster Grandparents program, Zack uses his language skills as a translator to help the aged. Zack is a volunteer for the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad in the Town of Guilderland and hopes to attend medical school upon his graduation from UAlbany.
