Samrat Bose

Samrat Bose (pictured above) is a graduate student in the Department of Economics. During this past summer he was awarded a competitive grant to attend an intensive two week summer program at the Central European University, Hungary in the field of Probabilistic Causality. He worked with other graduate students from around the world exploring both the philosophical roots and economic tools applied to measuring causal behavior in the social sciences.

In addition, Samrat has been a Commissioner’s Intern at the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) of New York State since May 2008. Here, Samrat is part of a research team that is calculating the alternative poverty and food security indicators for New York State. Also, Samrat is starting his third year as a Graduate Assistant at the Dean's Office, College of Arts and Sciences.

During his time at UAlbany, Samrat has been an active student outside of the classroom. As a film buff, Samrat was instrumental in the founding of the Indian Language Film Society. This organization provides students at UAlbany with a “big screen” experience by showing different Indian language films in the Lecture Centers. He also has volunteered his time to the Indian Student Organization and the Graduate Student Organization.

This fall he will be joining the Ph.D. program in Public Administration and Policy at Rockefeller College where he hopes to specialize in Public Finance. His research intends to look at fiscal policy issues particularly those related to taxation.
