Career Events, Programs, and Contests

Events: Career Services offers workshops and panel discussions that are open to all UAlbany students both undergraduate and graduate. We also provide information on career related events hosted by other organizations both local and across the US. All of these events can be found in our calendar. Workshops can also be scheduled for you student organization or class.

Programs: Companies and organizations offer internship and other experience based programs that to which students may apply. Information is provided below.

Contests: Companies sometimes conduct contest for students. information on contests can be found below.



3rd Annual Data Sciences Summer Institute

The 3rd Annual Data Sciences Summer Institute (DSSI) will be held May 24-July 2, 2010 on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). This 6-week long program will expose students to the mathematical foundations of Data Sciences, allow them to attend advanced tutorials and seminars on a diverse set of topics in this area given by leading experts in the field, and provide hands-on experience working on research projects on topics such as:

Research Topics: * Machine Learning approaches for Natural Language Understanding and Information Extraction * Knowledge Discovery in Social and Information Networks * Information Retrieval and Text Mining * Computer Vision

Eligibility: * College Junior or Senior Computer Science students (majors or minors) and beginning graduate students and/or Junior status students and above who have sufficient mathematical and programming experience. * Students should show strong academic performance. * Applicants must currently be living in the United States as citizens, residents or Visa holders. * Room, board and stipend will be provided to qualified students.

AlumniAthlete Program
The AlumniAthlete Network Wall Street Internship Program is a 10-week summer internship program targeted to collegiate sophomores and juniors who have shown a commitment to intercollegiate athletics and academics excellence.

The 2010 Price Chopper Innovation Competition

Price Chopper Supermarkets, a leader in the Northeast for supermarket retailing, is again offering college students the opportunity to showcase innovative ideas to the executives at Price Chopper by entering our Ultimate Innovation Competition 2010 and win cash prizes.

Students will have the opportunity to develop an original, creative, and innovative concept that would be relevant and meaningful to Price Chopper.  Students benefit additionally by gaining real-life experience through the submission of a formal written proposal to the executives at Price Chopper and a formal presentation if the team is selected as an Innovation finalist.

This year, teams are encouraged to focus ideas on how Price Chopper can Better Connect with Our Customers and Associates and be More Helpful  to them in the following business areas…:

  1. Retail Store Operations
  2. Supply Chain/Distribution Management (Including Warehousing and Transportation)
  3. Merchandising/Marketing (Including Advertising or Public Relations)
  4. Human Resources (Including Training and Recruiting)

The timeline for the contest starts in Feb. and ends in April

  • Abstract Submission due by 5pm on February 12th, 2010.
  • Price Chopper will either approve or reject all abstracts no later than February 26, 2010.
  • Formal Written Proposal Submission for accepted abstracts due by 5pm on March 26, 2010
  • Price Chopper will notify any and all advancing teams that they are Ultimate Innovation Finalists in early April.
  • Team Presentations for the Ultimate Innovation finalist teams take place in mid April.
  • Teams will be notified of their performance shortly after all the final presentations.
  • All finalist teams will be invited to an award celebration to be held in early May.
