Campus Recreation Fitness Centers 

Campus Recreation runs two fitness centers on UAlbany’s Uptown Campus. Download a campus map. 

  • Undergraduate students who live on campus have free access to Indigenous Quad Fitness Center and Broadview Fitness center during the Academic Year.

  • Undergraduate students who live off campus have free access to the Broadview Fitness Center during the Academic Year.

  • Faculty and staff have free access to the Broadview Fitness Center. 

  • Graduate students must purchase a Campus Recreation Membership to access the Broadview Fitness Center.  

You must show your UAlbany ID to be admitted into our fitness centers.
 

Rules for Campus Recreation Fitness Centers

All patrons must: 

  • Have a valid UAlbany ID 

  • Always wear shirts and athletic shoes 

  • Not drop weights or allow machines to slam down 

  • Only use equipment for its intended purpose. 

  • Use weight collars, pins, clips and machine safety hooks (Note: We also strongly recommend using spotters.) 

  • Re-rack all weights and plates to their designated storage areas 

  • Not engage in exercises that cannot be performed safely or pose any risk to others 

  • Keep benches out of the walkway 

  • Not move decline benches 

  • Keep all belongings in the cubbies 

  • Not remove bars from their racks for exercise use, except for the lifts meant for that station 

  • Report equipment failure to staff on duty 

  • Wipe off controls, seats, pads and railings before and after using equipment 

The following items are prohibited: 

  • Gum, food and drinks (except water in closed plastic containers) 

  • Sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, boots and black-soled shoes 

  • Jeans, skirts and any pants with buttons, zippers, rivets or other hardware 

  • Cutoffs, midriffs and altered shirts 

  • Weightlifting chalk 

  • Olympic lifting, including cleans, snatches and jerks 

  • Use of drugs or alcohol before entrance or while inside 

Additionally: 

  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items. 

  • Personal trainers who are not hired or authorized by Campus Recreation may not train clients inside our fitness centers.

  • Campus Recreation is committed to a safe environment free from bullying and harassment. Offensive language and actions, including profanity, derogatory remarks and other intimidating actions will not be tolerated and may be grounds for removal from the facility and future use. 

Hours & Locations 

Updates & Alerts: The Colonial Quad Fitness Center is currently closed for construction. 

Follow Campus Recreation on Instagram for updates on weather-related closures. 

Fitness centers close at 4 p.m. the Friday before Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break and Spring Break, and remain closed for the duration of the break. Fitness centers also close during the summer.
 

Broadview Fitness Center

Spring 2024 Hours

  • Monday through Thursday: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Friday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Broadview Fitness Center is located on the lobby level of the Broadview Center. 

Broadview Fitness Center’s entrance and exit is shifted during special events, including home basketball games. The fitness center’s front door is closed starting 2.5 hours before the event and ending 2.5 hours after the event. During this time, the fitness center’s back door acts as our entrance and exit. 

Indigenous Quad Fitness Center

Spring 2024 Hours

  • Monday through Thursday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Friday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Indigenous Quad Fitness Center is in the basement of Mohawk Tower on Indigenous Quad. 

Note: Only undergraduate students who live on campus can access Indigenous Fitness Center. 

University Apartment Fitness Centers 

The Department of Residential Life operates the fitness centers located in the Empire Commons and Liberty Terrace apartment complexes.  

Only students who live in Empire Commons, Liberty Terrace and Freedom Apartments may use the University Apartment fitness centers.
