Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: UAlbany Coaches, Athletes Make Play to Help Beautify Campus

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 23, 2007)

Coaches and athletes join Officer in Charge and Provost Susan Herbst to plant trees for UAlbany's annual Campus Clean-Up Day. Also joining them will be hundreds of UAlbany volunteers, including faculty, staff and students.

Background:  
The University at Albany's annual spring campus clean up began with 100 volunteers in 1997 and has grown to over 400 volunteers pitching in time and energy to beautify the campus community for Commencement and enjoy camaraderie and morale building in the fresh air.

In 2006, volunteers spread 100 yards of topsoil, 140 yards of mulch, 300 pounds of grass seed; planted 40 flats of pansies and 54 trees; and rolled out 180 square feet of sod. In addition, they collected 203 yards of leaves and debris and 172 bags of trash and tires.
