Geometric Optical Artist Benigna Chilla Featured at Art and Mathematics Conference 2007
ALBANY, N.Y. (March 29, 2007) -- Geometric optical artist Benigna Chilla, Berkshire Community College educator and alumna of the University at Albany, will be featured at the Art and Mathematics Conference 2007.
The event features a small group exhibit of posters and sculptures on the first floor of the University's Science Library and is highlighted by Chilla's geometric optical works. Also, a sculpture by Edward Mayer, Capital District sculptor and chairman of the sculpture program at UAlbany, is exhibited in the atrium of NanoFab 200 (CESTM) on Fuller Road. The exhibits will run through April 30.
A reception will be held on March 30 from 1-4 p.m. in the Standish Room, located on the third floor of the Science Library, with talks by Chilla and Nathaniel Friedman, professor emeritus in UAlbany's Mathematics Department and organizer of the first Art and Mathematics Conference in 1992.
The Art and Mathematics Conference was initially organized to energize a movement in interdisciplinary education relating art and mathematics. Previous AM exhibitions have been held at the University of California at Berkeley and Cooper Union College in New York City.
