UAlbany Goes Wireless in Residence Halls

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 11, 2007) -- The University at Albany will offer students enhanced ResNet service, including wireless Internet access, in residence halls beginning in fall 2007.

Through a partnership with Apogee, a custom networking solutions provider, UAlbany students will have the ability to use their WiFi-capable laptops in all residence halls in addition to the ability to plug into any ResNet port campus-wide. More than 7,400 students in the University's residential quads will benefit from the wireless access.

Apogee offers communication services specializing in developing and operating customized data network solutions for colleges and universities. New enhancements at UAlbany include upgraded networking capacity, as well as network and user support coverage available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Students will have access to a toll-free number for the Apogee Customer Support Center for live technical support; an onsite Apogee technician to address hardware issues; and a robust network infrastructure less susceptible to network outages.

The University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages more than 17,000 diverse students in 10 schools and colleges.
