Getting Registered for Classes

Interested in Business or Accounting
The University at Albany offers strong programs in Business and Accounting.  These are restricted majors, and you will need to apply and be admitted in order to pursue them.  Generally speaking, it will take you 3-4 semesters to complete the major after you admitted.

However, many majors can provide you with a strong foundation that will prepare you to confidently seek opportunities in the Business field, including graduate work.
As an incoming transfer student, we will advise you to take classes that allow you to work toward applying to Business or Accounting, but will also expose you to the other fields which may work as well or better for you in accomplishing your goals.

Seven Core Courses for Business and Accounting
These courses must be completed before pursuing upper level Business/Accounting classes.  Once you begin studying at UAlbany, the remainder of the courses must be taken here.

  1. APSY 101:  Introduction to Psychology
  2. ASOC 115 (or AANT 108): Introduction to Sociology (or Cultural Anthropology)
  3. AMAT 108 : Elementary Statistics
  4. AECO 110:  Microeconomics
  5. AECO111:  Macroeconomics
  6. BACC 211:  Financial Accounting (Fall semester only)
  7. BITM 215 :  Computer Applications in Business

A guideline for successful admission is to earn a 3.0 average in these seven courses, while earning an overall average at the University of 3.25.

Applications are accepted during the first weeks of May, August and December.  To apply, you need to have completed all seven core courses and be on track to earn 56 credits by the end of the semester in which you are applying.

Please complete and submit your Educational Plan based on this information.  You will be registered for classes by your academic advisor, and your schedule will be finalized when you meet at Orientation or when classes begin.
