Maritza Martinez

Maritza Martinez began working for the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) at the UAlbany in 1985 as an EOP Counselor. She left UAlbany’s EOP in 1989 to assume the position as the EOP Coordinator in Schenectady County Community College and returned to the UAlbany in 1995 to assume the Assistant Dean position in the EOP program. Under this title, Maritza oversaw the University-wide Study Programs available to the larger UAlbany student body (i.e., Study Groups, University Tutoring Program, Study Skills Workshops, Independent Tutoring Program, Early Academic Warning System), supervised the Campus Center outreach office, oversaw the 5 week EOP Pre-College Summer Program, co-developed the curriculum for the Freshman Year Experience course, supervised the unit’s 3 Graduate Assistants, and serviced the EOP student body and unit as was needed.

In 2008, Maritza assumed the joint post as Co-Deputy Director of the Office of Academic Support Services and the post as the Director of the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP). Maritza is a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service as well as the Governor’s Medallion for Distinguished Hispanics.

Prior to her employment in EOP/OASS, Maritza worked as a Social Worker at Parsons Child and Family Center, and was an outreach worker for the Traveler’s Aide Society (assisting those homeless and abused). She earned her BA/BSW from Fordham University and earned her Masters in Social Work from UAlbany. Maritza is of Puerto Rican heritage and is the proud mother of three.
