Course description
For academic year 2002-2003, Digital Media Workshop is split into two parts for the second time. DMWI, taught in the fall, focuses on online journalism. DMWII focuses on print journalism.

Digital Media Workshop I focuses on the science and art of editing and design required in today's world of online journalism. The class is taught in a hands-on workshop atmosphere in an electronic classroom. Students will learn to use the following software: Photoshop, notepad, an HTML editor (Dreamweaver), MS Word and MS Excel. Students will also be required to report and write original works of journalism, which will be included in personal and team projects.

Digital Media Workshop II explores the science and art of editing and design required in today's evolving world of digital journalism for print, aka newspapers and magazines. This class is intended for anyone who is interested in the process, design, presentation and implementation of message-making through text, images and computer screens and software. This class is conducted in a hands-on workshop atmosphere.

Students will learn to use computer applications Quark XPress and Photoshop and will learn about use of color, style, fonts, relative sizes, layering and more as we design newspaper front pages, a magazine cover, a tri-fold brochure and a music CD cover.

Reporting and writing will also be part of the class.
