SS145 Computer Lab

Opening and Closing Procedures

Opening the Lab

Each faculty member will be given the combination to the lock for SS145 and will therefore be responsible for opening the door for their class. If you need the combination for the lab, please give your name, phone number and email address to Marianne Simon, email simon@cascomp.albany.edu or phone 2-3536. CAS Computing reserves the right to change the combination to maintain security. You will be notified of the new combination when and if it is changed. We prefer that you do not give the combination to anyone else. If it becomes necessary to give the combination to your teaching assistant or someone else who is directly related to the course, please phone or email their name to Marianne Simon. We would appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a list of everyone who has the combination to the lab.

When you enter the lab, the computers should be off. To turn the power on, press the button on the left hand side of the 3.5" floppy drive. This should turn the monitor on also. If the monitor does not power on, (no green light next to the power button on the monitor), push the button on the lower right hand side of the monitor. If the machine does not power up, please report the problem to CAS Computing. Information on how to operate the Beacon projector can be found at http://www.albany.edu/~strother/beacon.html.

Closing the Lab

When your class is over, please have all students exit Windows. To do this, go to the File menu and select Exit Windows.... A message will come up saying This will end your Windows session. Click on the OK button. After a few seconds the DOS C:\ prompt will appear. Wait until you see the C:\ prompt and press the power button on left hand side of the 3.5" disk drive to turn off the computer. Do not turn the monitor off, turning the power off on the CPU will turn the monitor off also. Please have students pick up any paper that is left around the lab and stack any extra chairs that were used next to the printer in the front of the room. Make sure the windows are secure and the blinds are closed. Shut off the lights and close the door behind you. The faculty member should be the last one to leave the room. If there is a class immediately following yours, please be sure to vacate the room in a timely manner.
