- NOTICE!! Informal meetings are now at Professor
Java's and not at Uncommon Grounds. Its MUCH bigger than Uncommon and
they are much more friendly towards big groups. Sean will be in the office located in
room 333 of the campus center till 7:50 if you need a ride. If you have
a car and are willing to drive people, it would be helpful if you let us
know. Directions are at the bottom of the page under general
information.
NOTICE!! No Meeting on Weds, March 31st. We are
co-sponsoring Barbara Smith to come speak in the ballroom at 7PM.

- Dippikill
- Dippikill is SUNY Albany's camp site on Dippikill Mt. We stay in a
large cabin with electricity and a fire place for heat. The amount of
fun we have is legendary and everyone ends up closer. Where else can you
expect the men to make pancakes and the women to chop the wood. It only
costs you 25 dollars, and might be only 20 if we get enough people to
go! So make your friends go too! Food is provided so dont worry about
extra expenses. We try to organize rides at the meeting before we go, so
make sure you ask for one before it gets too late and you are stuck
without a ride. That would suck because we want everyone to go and have
a great time.
- ●Weekend of April 16, 17, and 18
- ●transportation decided at Weds April
14th's meeting
-
- Getting Married At SUNY Albany
- We will be tabling in the campus center lobby with information about
civil marriages and the recent controversy around it. If any of your
friends (or even yourself) have issues, questions, anything, this is the
place to send them for information. We will also be marrying people! You
wont be getting a marriage certificate but you will be getting some SUNY
Pride-tailored "I do's". We are really hoping that our
heterosexual allies visit us as well to help us show that this is a
civil rights issue. The CDGLCC is
sponsoring a town meeting this night as well to discuss the issue.
Remember, there is power in knowledge.
- ●Tuesday March 23rd from 9-4
-
- Barbara Smith: Famous Feminist Speaker
- Barbara Smith is a well known African American, bisexual, feminist
author/speaker/Albany native. We hear she is amazing! Which is why we
agreed to collaborate with the Women's Studies department to bring her
to campus. Make sure you don't miss this one or you will never be able
to explain to your children why you passed up the opportunity to see
this woman speak. She has a way with explaining the intersections of
race, class, sexuality, and gender. This is FREE!!! (we like that word)
- ●Wednesday, March 31st at 7PM in the campus
center ball room
-
- Thoth - Live Performance by Academy Award
Winning Artist
- This is part of the Eisodos Film Festival put on by the Theatre for
Education Association. Thoth is supposed to have new ways of approaching
gender and sexuality that should spark thought and conversation. Check
it out and let us know what you thought about it at the next meeting.
The entire festival is free to the public. Access the other events at
www.albany.edu/theatre . You
can also check out Thoth's Academy Award winning documentary before the
show!!
- ●Thursday March 25th 8PM in the Arena
Theater
- ●movie: 6:15PM before the show
-
- LGBTQ Conference
- What can we say. There is just a whole lotta good 'ol queer stuff
happening at this year's conference. A few of the highlights include
Bitch and Animal and Antigone Rising. Check out all of the information
on their web page at
www.albany.edu/~lgbtc . Dan and Simone in the LGBT Concerns office
did an amazing job in putting this together. Workshops are FREE to Pride
members, but to be a member you need to attend 3!! meetings. No Less.
You still need to pay for the banquet but you will need to contact them
or ask us to contact them for you if you plan on going to the banquet.
Their web site says '03, but it was just a technical difficulty, it's
for '04.

Formal meetings are
every other Wednesday at 8PM in Earth Science 241 for spring 2004
Informal meetings are
held every other Wednesday at 8PM at Professor Java's on Wolf Road.
2/11 - First formal meeting in ES241. We gave out TONS of information
2/18 - First informal meeting. It was a great success!
2/25 - Meeting in ES241. We had planned on doing an AMAZING and INFORMATIVE
discussion on the Red Cross's policy which is controversial even within the
gay community, but no one showed it. It was a blow to out ego but we've
decided to postpone rather than junk a perfectly good meeting.
3/3 - Informal meeting. Discussion is free and open but I think it will
gravitate towards the recent marriage debate and what we can do in Albany.
Bring some ideas! ex) go to city hall and ask for marriage licenses? Write
Jerry Jennings and demand a statement on gay marriages? Write love letters
to the mayor of New Paltz?
3/10 - Formal meeting. Steve Hendrix from the AIDS Council did
free HIV testing! Informed us about the new rapid testing that take
only 20 minutes for results.
3/17 - Informal meeting moved to Professor Java's on Wolf Road due to space
problems at Uncommon Grounds.
3/24 - Steve will be coming back with results and perhaps rapid testing!
We'll keep you updated.
3/31 - No Meeting! Barbara Smith event at 7PM!

T-shirt campaign - OK,
Perhaps campaign is a strong word. Basically, we plan on buying regular
white t-shirts and writing information about pride on them in the hopes that
people will notice them and start coming to our meetings more. Feel free to
do this yourself... and put our webpage and e-mail information on it while
you are at it. All of our contact info is on our "contact" link. Makes sense
right?
Painting the
office - We've been planning on doing this "soon" for a while.
Will it happen? It's up to you to get our asses moving because we have to
organize everything else as well. BUT! It would be great and you
should help if we do! Perhaps there will be food... Let us know if you want to help.
New Paltz Protest -
According to GodHatesFags.com there will be protests against civil marriages
on April 4th in New Paltz. If anyone is interested in going e-mail us and maybe we can
arrange some rides. We don't plan on being part of a counter protest as much
as we plan on lending support to the mayor
Day of Silence - Info coming
very soon. E-mail or call and ask for Sean!

Any suggestions for meetings, events, etc may be emailed to pride
(pride@albany.edu) or left in the
envelope on the office door (CC333).
Are you a group looking to cosponsor? E-mail us or drop by
the office to discuss (Don't be shy! We love working with others! Even
straight people!)
If you would like to be added to our email list, come to a meeting or let
us know by email. We send out information on upcoming events, planning
committees, or what ever comes up that you should know about. Usually 2 per
week.
Professor Java's directions from SUNY: Exit campus near
Empire Commons and take a right onto Fuller Rd. Take Fuller until you cannot
go any farther and take a left onto Central. Wolf Rd is the next major
street on your right, immediately after you pass Colonie Center. Java's is
about 3 minutes down the road on your right. Once you see Holiday Inn, slow
down and look for the Coffee Sanctuary sign and big black bear. Park in
back.
