Over ten years ago, Ana Verdejo, a member of the Alpha Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated lost her mother, Mirta I. Davila, to the devastating AIDS disease. The sisters wanted to join in the struggle against this devastating disease. It was then that Omega Phi Betas AIDS Benefit Banquet commenced and flourished into an annual event that raises awareness and helps stop the spread of this disease. The sisters envisioned an event that would allow them to raise money and channel information to communities of all ethnicities where whole generations of families were being lost.

For Omega Phi Beta, a Latina sorority founded on the concept of initiating change and setting precedence for leadership, this was more than a charity event; it was the birth of a legacy. A legacy with sisters so committed that in seven years they have been able to network with sponsors and raise thousands of dollars for The Family Center, The Farano Program for Families, The Albany Medical Center AIDS Pediatric Program, The National Quilt Foundation, the NAMES project, the Damien Center and the Safe Africa from AIDS Campaign.
