Welcome to the Official Homepage
of the NanoGSO!
|
It is the goal of NanoGSO to help promote, sponsor, organize, and
fund events related to Nanotechnology.
This includes any and
all technologies that can benefit from the novelties of working in
such a small regime.
It is also our goal to promote social gatherings
amongst the student body of the nano program here at CNSE.
The NanoGSO gets together every Tuesday in the NFS Cafeteria at 5pm to discuss upcoming events,
the budget that we have and everything else that may concern us.
If you ever have any questions, an idea for an event, or would like
to join our team,
please find any one of the actively involved students or join us for
one of the Tuesday meetings. Bharat K Avasarala

April 4th, 2008: The Precursor great success
On Friday, April 4, 2008 the Nano Graduate Student Organization (NanoGSO)
hosted Precursor, an innovative idea competition featuring teams of
CNSE students
working together with MBA students to create commercially viable
business models for nanotechnological innovations. Evident in the range and scope of the
innovative ideas was the tremendous impact nanotechnology can have on the health of
our natural environment and the quality of our lives in the future. Topics addressed
making meat safer through packaging material; making wind turbines more efficient in
low wind settings; oxygenating indoor ambient air for aging populations; making more
efficient fuel cells; recycling the water used and currently wasted in semiconductor processing;
and many others. CNSE mentors played an important role in helping students in the
refinement of the business and technology of the ideas.
Niskayuna-based GE Research Center donated prize
money which was awarded by a
panel of local judges representing the venture capital, academic and
legal fields, and the nanotechnology industry. The collaboration between CNSE students
and School of Business students created valuable connections and plans for future joint
ventures.
Precursor was designed to serve as a platform for the commercialization and practical
application of
students' nanotech ideas. It was conceived and organized by the
NanoGSO, a group of
passionate CNSE students dedicated to the advancement of
nanotechnology and the
enrichment of students' educational experience at the University at
Albany.
