Who We Are
Our Positions

The United States government has reacted to 9/11 with un-precedented
levels of unilateral military aggression ("pre-emption"), reckless
disregard and abandonment of civil rights, and a fiercely violent
defense of the global status-quo which benefits a tiny segment of
the world at the expense of the great majority.
Capital District for Justice and Peace, based in Albany NY,
was founded July 2002 in response to what we see as a continuing
pattern of irresponsible behavior on the behalf of the
U.S. government, which is currently being sold to the American
public under the guise of "fighting terrorism". We are a loose
network of activists and groups involved on many different fronts in
the struggle for peace and equality.
In the past few months we have helped coordinate protests in Albany
NY that drew hundreds of people, held Oct. 25/28 2002 and
Jan. 17
2003. We have also sent bus-loads
of hundreds of local residents to the massive anti-war
demonstrations held in Washington D.C. Oct. 26 2002 and Jan. 18
2003.
For information on the next meeting go here. If you would like to contact us or
get involved (don't be shy!) go here for
more information. We encourage everyone,
especially: people of color, women, and minorities to come to our
meetings, and take leadership roles in our activities.
As Americans, we have a special responsibility. We demand that the
U.S. government:
- Stop the misnamed, open-ended "War on Terrorism" in
Afghanistan, Colombia, Iraq, Philippines, and around the world.
- End racial profiling, i.e. the targeting of Muslims and
people of color by law enforcement and immigration authorities.
- Stop actions abroad that fuel misery, retaliation and more
terrorism.
- End its support for Israel's occupation of Palestine (West
Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip).
- End its support for Israel's military aggression against the
Palestinian people.
- Actively support Palestinian self-determination.
- Stop sending financial aid and military hardware used to kill
and terrorize Palestinian civilians.
- Stop sending aid used to threaten legitimate governments in
Venezuela and elsewhere.
- Stop sending aid used to support paramilitary and military
terror in South America and elsewhere.
- End its exploitation of people of color worldwide.
- Stop putting valuations on the lives of innocent human beings
and formulating acceptable amounts of collateral damage in
war. There is no such thing as an acceptable amount of loss of
innocent human life.
As violence continues in the Middle East, we demand an end to attacks
on civilians in Israel, Palestine, and across the globe. We support
the millions of Palestinians and Israelis, including the Israeli
soldiers called "refusniks," who risk their lives and freedom working
for a true peace, beginning with an end to the occupation.
