Save my life!  A goal setting WebQuest for 8th grade students

Goal Setting Steps

Things to Remember:

1. SMART=          Specific (very clear)

                                       Measureable (includes numbers!)

                                       Action-Oriented (a behavior, not a result)

                                       Realistic (humanly possible)

                                       Time Framed (1 month, 3 months, 1 year…)

2. Include at least:

-3 roadblocks (physical, mental, or social)

                          -3 supportive people and resources

                          -5 steps with due dates

3.          About the due dates:  Your partnership can choose a realistic              time frame and create realistic due dates based on that.  Be real!

For example, if an 8th grader’s goal is to become an astronaut by next              year, that’s pretty unrealistic.  If that time frame changed to within 20              years, that’s more manageable.

4. And a word on rewards: Make sure it compliments the healthy lifestyle your friend is working towards.  Plan a reward that is motivating, but also health conscious!

Remember, a reward doesn’t have to be tangible.
