I love fractals. Naturally, one might ask, what are they? Generally, they are mathematically-generated images wherein the image's parts are a roughly reproduced image of the whole. Put another way, fractals can be segmented into parts that look like the whole. It's sort of a visual synecdoche.
Fractals can be delightfully entrancing images. I had to choose from many options when I was deciding which one to use as my graphic for this site. I liked "Lost Art of Listening" by Terry Wright for two reasons. First, listening is an essential component of communication, though no one ever studies it. Second, the image of "Lost Art" looks to me somewhat as an interconnected web of communicators, mouths expressing views, projecting outwards soundwaves of meaning.
