MULTIVOCAL POEMS
I began my creative life as a composer, and have always written polyphonically. One of the attractions of cybertext is that it can make visible, as quasi-musical logical structures, textual polyphonies, which would otherwise remain purely audible, intellectual, or potential. Many poems in Uranium Poems and in Transparencies were polyphonic multivocalizations of this kind.
The cybertext links in such programs as Storyspace abandon the old screen upon moving to the new one. The multivocal cyberpoems that follow instead create something like a palimpsest, in which the earlier text does not disappear when the new textual vocalization enters the mix.
To release the multivocalization, pass your mouse over the text.
