Recent Studio Projects
 
Each year the Masters in Urban and Regional Planning (MRP) program undertakes a Graduate Planning Studio project focusing on a community in or around the Capital Region.
Below is a list of final products from some recent Studio projects.

 Sheridan Hollow: Steps Forward   Making Redevelopment Work

 KSS Inter-Municipal Trail Feasibility Study (Upstate NY APA Best Student Project 2011 Winner)

The Fall 2010 Planning Studio's study for the feasibility of trails connecting the Towns of Kinderhook, Stockport and Stuyvesant (KSS) in Columbia County, New York.

 Arbor Hill Partnership Feasibility Study

The Fall 2009 Planning Studio focused on identifying resources within the Arbor Hill community and the University at Albany, to find ways to enhanced both parties in mutually beneficial ways. The purpose was to lay the groundwork for future collaborative efforts between the Arbor Hill community and the University at Albany.

 Arbor Hill Parks, Public Arts and Community Resources Studies

The Fall 2008 Planning Studio conducted studies for developing and launching specific initiatives and projects, consistent with the Arbor Hill Neighborhood Plan. One team focused on revitalization of neighborhood parks. The second team on public arts for community pride. And the third, focused on development of a website as an online community resource.

 Mid-City University District (MCUD) Plan 

The Fall 2007 Planning Studio recommended a series of actions and strategies aimed at protecting and enhancing the positive qualities of the Mid-City University District (MCUD) - an area of the City of Albany that encompasses the UAlbany Downtown Campus and the College of Saint Rose.

 Mohawk River Public Access Plan

The Fall 2006 Planning Studio's study of the 10.2 miles of waterfront along the Mohawk River in the Town of Colonie.

 The Purple Path

The Fall 2005 Planning Studio concentrated on developing a proposal for the Purple Path -  a multi-use 5k loop around the inner perimeter of the UAlbany Uptown Campus.

 Fort Edwards Historic Study

The Fall 2005 Studio conducted a study to develop a tourism strategy that focuses on the history of the Village of Fort Edwards. The study incorporated a fiscal impact analysis of the future development of Rogers Island and put forward proposals for historic preservation and adaptive reuse.

 Canajoharie Study

The Fall 2004 Studio led by Dr. Gene Bunnell, conducted a study of Canajoharie, New York and compiled a report of recommendations that, if implemented, will improve the quality of life for village residents and attract visitors.

 The Problems and Potential of Vacant Buildings

The Fall 2002 Studio led by Dr. Lawson was a survey of vacant structures in Albany, NY.

Other Projects


 Neighborhood Safety Through Environmental Design,  Education District Enhancement Study

In Summer 2010, MRP students, Kisha Santiago and Omar J. Peters, developed a brochure to guide Albany's Education District residents of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies to improve neighborhood safety. The brochure was prepared for Albany's Education District Enhancement Study, being led by consultant, BFJ Planning.
