As the student intern, I was responsible for analyzing the current conditions of the City of Niagara Falls from a tourists perspective. I was also taught basic planning concepts and the history of the region so I could ultimately create a proposal for future projects for the city.
Planning/Research Interests One of the many reasons Lisa is so passionate about pursuing a career in Urban and Regional Planning is her experience growing up in North Tonawanda, New York. This city is located in between Niagara Falls, NY and Buffalo, NY. It is relatively well known that both of these cities were once very prosperous. However, for many reasons, they are both struggling to maintain population, businesses and to attract tourists to what has been known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Lisa has always seen potential for both cities, and still feels there is a lot of hope for the future. Due to the conditions of both cities, Lisa decided she wanted to make a difference in Western New York, and in other cities with similar challenges. Although she still feels Western New York is a wonderful place to live, not everyone has the same opinion. Lisa feels she can make a difference for these struggling economies and improve the quality of life for current and future residents.
Another reason for her dedication and passion in the field of Urban and Regional Planning is the desire to create more sustainable communities. The new way of life in the 21st century has created a world where the future is unknown and climate change and global warming seem unavoidable. Lisa would like to work with other planners to make a difference and encourage smart growth and sustainable living.
