Assignments (Summer 2011)

As a writing intensive course, CSI 300z encourages "using writing as a means of sharpening critical thinking in and understanding of the subject." (2009-10 Undergraduate Bulletin). This is a tentative list of topics and due dates, subject to change.

Papers should follow the conventions noted in the course style sheet. Remember too, when doing a peer review to follow the course editing guidelines. Finally, avoid plagiarizing others' work.

You must also include one (preferably, more) graphics in the graded papers. This can be an illustration copied from another source (a screen shot, for example, a logo, photo, chart, whatever). It can also be an original illustration that you designed to fit the context.

Refer to the Class Schedule for web site review dates to determine the date that a presentation and companion web site synopsis are due.

Revision Option

If you choose, you may revise your software review and resubmit it to improve your grade. This is an optional assignment, due one week after the return of papers. If you choose this option, you should revise your paper to address the comments I made in your earlier draft. In many cases, I've indicated passages that could be revised to make your writing more economical, more focused, and in most cases, more descriptive.

In addition, you must provide at least two more pages of new material, expanding the review to consider whatever you think might be relevant after reading my comments or discussing your paper with me or class mates. Please use italics (or color) to indicate new text.

Submit your new draft and the earlier one with my comments on it for comparison. Good luck.
