Performance
Measure
Exercise
Identify
at least three performance measures.
Given your career
interests and the "track" that you are on in the Masters
program, either create or locate at least three performance measures
that "take a snapshot" of
the performance of some standard or expected activity in your chosen
field. You may find that these already exist and you can introduce
these as used
elsewhere.
Similarly,
you may
create
your own measures or customize ones that you find elsewhere.
For each measure
you identify,
provide a brief
description of the measure itself, including a rationale for the utility
of the measure;
provide a "benchmark"
or performance standard
that you think is appropriate
for the activity, including a rationale for the utility of the
benchmark;
indicate the frequency
that the measure occurs;
indicate the kind
of measure that it is: exact, proxy, process, or progress (see p. 135
in the
text).
If you do locate
existing performance measures, I encourage you to customize
one or more of these just for the fun of it.
To assist you with
this exercise, here's a form that you can download and use for
the exercise. We will discuss these in class. In all likelihood, we will
break into small groups to review performance measures and select the
best of these to report back to the full class. I will collect your
performance measures after class.
