"Outreach" Exercise
Identify
at least three "stakeholders" whose assistance can improve the operations
and success of your organization.
Imagine that you
are the director of a library / archive that relies on tax dollars
to fund your organization's operations. No doubt, there are "stakeholders"
(that is, individuals or groups who either have an interest in your
program
or may be persuaded to have an interest). Name three of these who you
think it important to establish (or improve) relationships with.
First, establish
the context for your suggestions by briefly describing your organization,
its mission, and its overall scope of services. For each stakeholder
you identify, give a brief description of who it is
and
why you think its cooperation or "partnership" can assist
your organization. Finally, describe how you would initiate contact
to either
establish
or imrove the relationship.
To assist you with
this exercise, here's a form that you
can download and use for this exercise. We will discuss these in class.
In all likelihood, we will
break into small groups to review outreach proposals and select the
best of these to report back to the full class. I will collect your
proposed innovations after class.
