This is my interpretation of a portion of Roland Barthes' essay - From Work to Text. I chose to explore a snippet from point-number-four, which opens with the argument that the text is plural, and then goes on to explore this rather abstract notion. This is accomplished by comparing the plurality of the text with that of the work. The latter referring to the intellectual process that is subsequently expressed by the former. After several readings of this passage, I was feeling much the same as Barthes. That is, I was seeing text in an entirely different light. It had become an entity in it's own right, with a personality all its own. Well, after the umpteenth reading of this pregnant passage, certain keywords began to jump from the text, and so I decided to use then as models for meditation and manifestation! This insight fit in perfectly with this particular assignment, which required that we explore the many dimensions of the text. Finally, if you click on the left-hand image, you will be taken to the work of Marcus Ordonez, and if you click on the right-hand image, you will be taken to the work of Kwabena Sekyere. This picture is the result of shredding the Web-page that I created to satisfy the requirements of draft number four. I also added a layer of text to the right hand side of the image. This particular text was created with the vertical type mask, copy, and paste. After that, I used the magic-wand, find-edges and color-pencils filters. Check it out, let me know what you think. I will be using this technique for some of the lettering in my final project.
