The Passing of Police Officer Marcia (Collins) Stella '93

1971 - 2008

     It is with deep sadness that Five Quad VAS announces the passing of alumna Marcia (Collins) Stella of the Stamford Police Department. Police Officer Stella passed away on Sunday morning, quite unexpectedly, while at home with her family. Police Officer Stella was an 11 year veteran of the department, serving in the Patrol Division, Training Division and Youth Bureau. She leaves behind a husband and two young children, and our thoughts and prayers are with them now.

Alumni Update

     Bob Elling, SUNYA (BA & MPA) who got his start in emergency medical services at 5-Quad VAS and was its first Director of Operations in 1975, was recently awarded the Educator of Excellence Award by the NYS EMS Council. He continues to practice as a paramedic, author and educator in the Capital District at HVCC. The award , which recognizes his three decades of EMT and paramedic training, will be given out on 10/20/07 at the annual EMS awards banquet in Syracuse.

The Passing of David C. Brinkerhoff '99

     It is with the deepest regret that we inform you of the recent passing of our Friend and Brother, NYS Trooper David C. Brinkerhoff '99. David, or Brink as he was best known, was a dedicated member of Five Quad Volunteer Ambulance Service while a student at the University at Albany. Brink also served as the company's Director of Operations. Brink was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 25, 2007 during the search for fugitive Travis Trim, wanted in connection with the attempted homicide of another New York State Trooper that occurred on April 24, 2007.

     David is survived by his wife Barbara and his 7-month old daughter Isabella Grace.
State Police in Catskill set up an account for the family. Donate through any branch of the Bank of Greene County or make checks to the Brinkerhoff Family, Bank of Greene County, Attn: Brinkerhoff Family Account, Box 470, Catskill, NY 12414.

Please pray for our departed Brother Brink. He is missed.

Five Quad Alumni Constituent Group

     We are seeking alumni interested in forming a constituent group within the UAlbany Alumni Association. A constituent group is a formal subsection of the alumni association that brings alumni and non-alumni with a common bond together. Currently, there are consitutent groups for legal professionals, athletes and supporters of the athletics program and the school's crew team. Contact Sean to find out more or to express your interest. We need 25 alumni in order to charter!

Relay for Life 2004 - American Cancer Society

     With your help, we raised more than $500 for the American Cancer Socienty in this year's Relay for Life. Thank you all for your support. Together, the student and alumni teams rasied more than $1,800!
