Snowflake Chair Set:

Materials: crochet cotton, white or ecru, size 10. Steel crochet hook no 8.

Chair back measures about 10x12.5 inches, and each arm piece 5.5x 10 inches.

Large motif should measure 3 inches in diameter.

Chair Back (large Motif):

Ch 8, join w/ slip st to form ring.

1^st rnd: ch4, (to count as 1 dc and ch 1),* 1 dc in ring, ch 1, repeat from * 10 times, join w/ slip st in 3^rd st of ch 4 (12 dc).

2^nd rnd: Ch 5 (to count as 1 dc and ch 2) , *1 dc in next dc, ch 2, repeat from * 10 times, join with slip st in 3^rd st of ch 5 (12 spaces.)

3^rd rnd: Ch 14 (to count as 1 dc and ch 11),* 1 dc in next dc, ch 11, repeat from * 10 times, join with slip st in 3^rd st of ch 14 (12 loops).

4^th rnd: Slip st over to center (6^th st) of 1^st loop, ch 2, sk 2 sts, thread over hook 3 times, insert hook in next (9^th) st of loop and work 1 dc as follows: draw thread through, thread over hook and draw through 2 loops (3 loops remaining on hook) thread over hook again, insert hook in 3^rd st of next loop, draw thread thru (5 loops on hook), thread over hook and take off 2 loops at a time 4 times (2 spaces made), ch 5, 1 dc in top of dc (between the 1^st 2 spaces), ch 2, slip st in center (6^th st) of 2^nd loop (this completes first point of 4 spaces),* ch 2, skip 2 sts, thread over hook 3 times, insert hook in next (9^th) st of loop, work 1 dc same as dc in preceding loop (3 loops remaining on hook), thread over hook, insert hook in 3^rd st of next loop, thread over and take off 2 loops at a time 4 times, ch 5, 1 dc in top of dc (between 1^st 2 spaces), ch 2, slip st in 6^th st of next loop, repeat from * 10 times, join with slip st in slip st at beginning of rnd and fasten off. This completes 1 motif.

Make 17 more motifs. Place them in the positions illustrated, having 5 motifs in each of 1^st 3 rows and 3 motifs in 4^th row; sew 2 points of each motif to corresponding 2 points on adjacent motifs, or join on 4^th rnd as follows: after completing 1^st 2 spaces of a point, ch 2, join with slip st to corresponding point on adjacent motif, ch 2, and complete point; continue joining 2 points of each motif to corresponding 2 points on adjacent motifs.

Fill in Motifs:

Ch 6, join w/ sl st to form ring.

1^st rnd: Ch 3, 1 dc in ring, ch 2, join w/ sl st to free point on motif, ch 2, sl st in dc just made, ch 2, 2 dc in ring, ch 4, sl st in 1^st st of ch (picot),* 2 dc in ring, join in same way to next free point, 2 dc in ring, a ch 4 picot, repeat from * twice, join with sl st in 3^rd st of ch 3 and fasten off. This completes fill-in motif that joins one group of motifs. Fill in all spaces in same way.

Arm Pieces:

Make 7 motifs as for chair back and join, having 2 motifs iin each of the 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd rows, and 1 motif on the 4^th row. Work fill in motifs in spaces between the 1^st and 2^nd rows, and the 2^nd and 3^rd rows, place motif on the 4^th row between the 2 motifs on 3^rd row and omit fill-in.
