Suggestions for Using These Books in the Library

Fleming, Candace. Gabriella's Song. Giselle Potter. New York: Simon, 1997.

A fanciful tale set in the real life magical city of Venice, Italy. Everyone thinks of canals and gondoliers when thinking of Venice, but Venice is also the city of music. The author and the illustrator take the reader on a walk with Gabriella. Gabriella is a young girl who is always humming a tune, which makes everyone smile. This tune becomes the inspiration for a brand new symphony to be composed by a famous composer. Illustrations should have been a little more colorful (richer) to put more life in the story. Otherwise a lighthearted tale for the library which will make children smile and maybe even sing. Submitted by Adam Wall
