Bang, Molly. When Sophie Gets Angry --- Really, Really Angry. New York: Blue Sky Press, 1999.

Sophie boils with anger when her sister grabs a toy away from her. But, Sophie has a special place she goes to that calms the rage insider her. She soon returns home feeling better. Molly Bang's expert manipulation of colors, shapes, sizes of figures, and placement of figures on each page cause the reader to feel the emotions that Sophie feels and that the words aptly describe. Bang's treatment of the problem of anger is insightful and exemplary. This book is a must for every children's library, classroom, and parent! Submitted by Jane Pingelski

Fox, Mem. Tough Boris. Kathryn Brown. New York: Harcourt, 1994.

An easy reader about a tough, fearless pirate named Boris and a stowaway. This is a colorful story, both in the text and the full-page illustrations. The reader is able to see what a ruthless pirate Boris is through Kathryn Brown's illustrations and the story. That is, until the end of the story when Boris' parrot dies and it becomes obvious even tough guys can cry. This simple book shows how it is all right to have feelings and would be good for a class social activity. Only fault of the book is that it is not clear how the little boy becomes a stowaway on the pirate ship. A good book, especially for "tough" little boys to see in the library.Submitted by Adam Wall
