will be held on March 23 at the School of Public Health, East Campus, East
Greenbush, New York. Abdelmonem A. Afifi, Dean Emeritus, UCLA School of
Public Health, Professor of Biostatistics & Biomathematics is the featured
speaker. |
The Albany Chapter of the American Statistical Association and The School
of Public Health at The University at Albany are interested in receiving

Our special invited speaker will be Abdelmonem A. Afifi, Dean Emeritus,
UCLA School of Public Health, Professor of Biostatistics & Biomathematics.
Dr. Afifi's research centers on multivariate statistics including missing
observations in regression and discriminant analyses, variable selection,
multiple confidence intervals, and survival analysis. His applied research
includes prognostic indices for critically-ill patients, clinical trials,
and risk factors for lung and heart diseases. Dr. Afifi has co-authored
2 books on multivariate analysis. Most recently, he has been interested
in meta-analysis. Dr. Afifi's address is entitled:
"What's
Hot for Biostatistics in Public Health."
In addition to our usual Student and Professional Sessions, this year's
conference will have two new additions: A special presentation on gene
chips Friday afternoon and a Gala Banquet that evening.
Special
Presentation:"Data Mining Gene Chips"
Friday
afternoon, March 22, 3:00 PM, at U/Albany School of Public Health Auditorium
Presenters and panelists will discuss detailed aspects of analyzing the
huge amounts of data, often exceeding 100,000 observations, available from
these cancer classifying 'transcriptome' experiments. Presenters include
Drs. Ingo Ruczinski and Rafael Irizarry, from Johns Hopkins Department
of Biostatistics, and Drs. Michael Ryan and Robin Peitropaolo, from DOH's
Wadsworth Center. Join us for an in depth discussion of this important
emerging area.
