A statistical analysis of the emergency department daily services was performed using linear regression methods. The objective was to detect days on which there were an unusually large number of demands for service. Three years of accumulated daily data was used to predict unusually high days in the following fourth year. The selection of variables and the definition of an unusually large number of services will be discussed.
